World renowned trumpeter Hugh Masekela performed Oct. 17-20 at Sibojama Theatre's production of "Songs of Migration" at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.
The exclusive U. S. premiere was a musical tribute telling the stories of late 19th century migrant workers throughout Africa. The stories shared through song and dance highlighted the plights people encountered leaving their homes -- sometimes for months -- in search of better opportunities throughout Africa.
Masekela teamed up with "Songs" Director James Ngcobo to produce a wonderful musical that enthralled the audience. Masekela and Sibongile Khumalo served as lead storytellers as the production weaved through songs by Masekela, Mackay Davashe, Joseph Shabalala, Victor Ndlazilwane, and others during the 90-minute non-stop performance.
