District Prepping for Inaugural Events

1/8/2013, 10:12 a.m.

As the nation gears up for the second inauguration of President Barack Obama, the District will also serve as the backdrop for a series of balls and other special events in celebration of the historic event.

Obama will officially be sworn into office on Sunday, Jan. 20 in a private ceremony. However, the ceremonial event that takes place the following day on Monday, Jan. 21 on the steps of the U. S. Capitol, is expected to attract between 600,000 and 800,000. That day which will also be the national observance of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will add to the historical significance of Monday's inauguration.
