In events and activities ranging from worship services to the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the District of Columbia has welcomed visitors from across the country who've gathered to witness the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Visitors arrived throughout the weekend almost as enthusiastic about Monday's inauguration as the one that took place in 2009. In addition, the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial site -- which Obama will face as he takes his oath on the steps of the U.S. capitol -- has been crowded with tourists celebrating MLK Day.

Vendors have also set up shop at various metro stations to sell souvenirs in commemoration of the historic inauguration.

While two official inaugural balls are being hosted by the Presidential Inaugural Committee and attended by the president, several unofficial balls will be held throughout the District/Maryland/Virginia area.
