While GOP conservatives have blasted President Obama for issuing executive orders, the NAACP praised the president Friday for an order he signed last week to improve working conditions for those employed by federal contractors.
Cornell William Brooks, NAACP president and CEO, applauded Obama for requiring federal contractors to comply with anti-discrimination laws.
"This very important and comprehensive executive order will ensure that taxpayers aren't supporting companies that discriminate, steal wages, or fail to protect the health and safety of their employees," Brooks said. "Promoting competition and protecting civil rights in federal contracting is a measure of both business ethics and democratic values."
Earlier this year, Obama issued executive orders to fight discrimination against sexual minorities and to raise the minimum wage for federal workers to $10.10.
