Charles Allen, a candidate for the Ward 6 D.C. Council seat, has received a number of endorsements recently, one of the biggest coming from the Service Employees International Union.
"We are confident in Charles Allen's record of leadership and the years we've spent working with him to improve life for working families in the District," said Jaime Contreras, Maryland/DC State Council president and 32BJ SEIU vice president.
Allen, a former aide to D.C. Council member Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), who is a candidate for mayor, said that he is pleased to be supported by the union.
"I've spent the last decade standing with D.C.'s working families, fighting for living wage legislation, affordable housing, campaign finance reform, and other social justice issues critical to our city," he said. "As the next Ward 6 council member, I look forward to working together with SEIU for neighborhoods that everyone can always call home."
Allen, who faces two opponents in the April 1 Democratic primary, has also received the support of the D.C. Chapter of the National Organization for Women, DC for Democracy, the D.C. Association of Realtors and Clean Slate Now.
