Largo, MD — Thousands of people from all over the Washington metropolitan region poured into the Sports and Learning Complex on Saturday, June 14 to attend the 2014 Housing Fair. Attendees were able to meet with housing industry professionals to get questions answered, obtain information and attend workshops on a wide variety of topics geared to purchasing a home and keeping it. Exhibitors included banks, housing counselors, realtors, mortgage lenders, non-profit organizations, home security companies and more.
At 1:15 p.m., Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III reached into a drum barrel and pulled the name of the lucky winner of this year’s House Lottery. Ms. Porsha Hartwell, of Northeast D.C., was the lucky winner. When her name was announced, she sat in the stands in disbelief before rising and walking to the stage to join the County Executive, Eric C. Brown, Director of the Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development and Ray Skinner, Maryland Secretary of Housing. Ms. Hartwell and her husband Kamani, now have the opportunity to purchase a fully renovated home, from top to bottom, with incentives and down payment assistance that will enable them to buy the house for well below market rate. “We are delighted to welcome the Hartwells to Prince George’s County,” said Eric C. Brown. “Everyone’s excited when we can fulfill our mission and provide quality, affordable housing to area residents.”
The House Lottery home, located in District Heights, is a spacious 4 bedrooms/3 baths home on a cul-de-sac and situated on over a 1/4 acre lot landscaped with flowers and fruit trees with a large fenced yard. It features granite counter tops and new Energy-Star stainless steel kitchen appliances, new chocolate kitchen cabinetry, custom ceramic tile design in the master bath, a rear deck and off-street parking.
