First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed students from across the country and across town (Bancroft Elementary School) as well as NASA representatives to the White House to participate in planting vegetables in the White House Kitchen Garden Tuesday, April 5th. This year, 2016, marks the eighth and final year of vegetables planting for Mrs. Obama since originally starting her first major White House garden in 2009.
“Born for This: The Bebe Winans Story” is a musical stage play at the Arena Stage Kreeger Theater, July 1 through August 28. The musical features original music and lyrics by R&B and gospel recording artist Benjamin “Bebe” Winans. The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) was held June 15 through 19 in Miami, FL. This year ABFF celebrated it’s 20th anniversary and Rapper/Poet, Actor, and Activist Common served as the 2016 festival ambassador. The ABFF is a five-day event, committed to recognizing directors, screenwriters and actors in the entertainment business and delivering films made by and about people of African descent to audiences all over the world. The Kennedy Center held its 24th Annual Spring Gala entitled: How Sweet It Is: A Tribute to Marvin Gaye on Sunday, June 5th at 8:00 p.m. in Northwest. On Wednesday, May 25, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) BOLD PAC, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) PAC and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Leadership PAC stood on the steps of the Democratic National Headquarters in southeast D.C., to speak out against republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s statement regarding the housing crisis in America. In 2006, CNN reported that Trump said he hoped the market would tank, so he could “go in and buy like crazy” and “make a lot of money” when the real estate and housing markets failed. Trump was highly criticized and said on Tuesday, May 24, that his business sense to profit off individuals struggling to keep their homes is “the kind of thinking our country needs.” [read more…]
