Black Talent Strong Among 2019 Oscar Nominations

“Green Book,” “Black Panther” “BlacKkKlansman” and “If Beale Street Could Talk” are among this year’s top contenders for best picture, best directing (Spike Lee), best supporting actress (Regina King), best supporting actor (Mahershala Ali) and another handful of coveted awards when the 91st Academy Awards are broadcast live Feb. 24 on ABC from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

“Black Panther,” which leads with seven nominations, is the first superhero movie to ever be nominated for best picture.

The nominations were announced early Tuesday by Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross in Los Angeles at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
