Community Nonprofit, Founder Receive State Citation

A motivational speaker based in Riverdale, Md., and the organization she founded have been awarded the Maryland Governor’s Citation for her significant impact on both the community and the state economy.

Margaret Dureke and WETATi were honored in late October during National Women’s Small Business Month, which recognizes the contributions and successes of women in small businesses.

WETATi, an acronym for “We’re Empowered to Achieve The Impossible,” is an educational and economic empowerment network organization.

The organization, located at the Nyumburu Cultural Center at the University of Maryland in College Park, also promotes creative thinking, leadership and entrepreneurship.

WETATi’s target market includes youth, millennials, and women of African-American, African and Hispanic descent, as well as veterans and other underrepresented groups.
