The DC Jazz Festival announced the schedule for its “Jazz in the ‘Hoods” concert series, which spotlights all four quadrants and eight wards of the nation’s capital.

The series, presented by Events DC, will feature performances at more than 20 neighborhood venues as part of the annual jazz festival, which runs this year from June 8-17.

“D.C.’s rich and diverse music history takes center stage each year at the DC Jazz Fest presented by Events DC and we are proud to continue our partnership in this regional and cultural celebration,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, DC Events CEO and president. “In its ninth year, residents and visitors alike can experience some of the best jazz music in all corners of our city. Our continued involvement with the DC Jazz Festival is just another example of driving economic activity through local programming and delivering cultural enrichment for this vibrant city we call home.”

The festival will feature a variety of free and ticketed performances in city neighborhoods including Adams Morgan, Anacostia, Capitol Hill, Chinatown, Downtown, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, Capitol Riverfront, Mount Pleasant, Kenilworth and Eastland Gardens, the H Street Corridor, Southeast, Southwest, Takoma Park, Trinidad, Ivy City, the U Street Corridor and Van Ness.

This year’s “Jazz in the ‘Hoods” will include the CapitalBop Jazz Loft Series. As one of the festival’s signature partnerships, CapitalBop presents vibrant, intriguingly edgy, original expressions by cutting-edge musicians in alternative venues, as well as D.C.-based musicians grounded in the jazz tradition and beyond.

Returning for its seventh year, the East River Jazz Series presents free and affordably priced performances and programs to thousands of residents east of the Anacostia River.

The East River Jazz Series aims to bring the music in neighborhoods not otherwise served by live jazz performances, with many of the events at no cost.

The University of the District of Columbia is once again partnering with the festival on music and education programs as part of its ongoing Jazz Alive series. The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage will host the “It’s a Family Affair” series, five free concerts highlighting the tradition of the jazz family, including spouses and sibling jazz musicians of the D.C. scene.

In addition to CapitalBop and East River Jazz, other partners include Twins Jazz, Sixth & I, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Mr. Henry’s, Atlas Performing Arts Center, the National Museum of American History, Eighteenth Street Lounge, The Grill From Ipanema, Pearl Street Warehouse, Union Stage, Hamilton Live, City Winery, JoJo’s Restaurant and Bar, The Brixton, D.C.’s oldest continuing jazz club Blues Alley, and many more.
