Singer R. Kelly, long accused of sexual trysts with underage girls, now faces federal charges stemming from allegations of sex acts with minors and attempts to hide evidence from authorities.
Kelly, 52, was arrested Thursday night in Chicago, where he faces 13 federal sex crime charges. He will be extradited to New York City to face five additional federal charges, including for racketeering, transporting underage girls for sex, and sexual exploitation of a child, according to law enforcement sources.
The R&B star, whose given name is Robert Kelly, was also arrested earlier this year on several sexual abuse charges in his native Chicago.
The evidence against Kelly in a February case is based in part on a tape that allegedly shows him having sex with an underage girl.
