Lamont Peterson will go up against Olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz Jr. in a fight slated to take place Saturday, Oct. 17 at George Mason University Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.
The Premier Boxing Champions event — to be televised on NBC– will also feature Peterson’s younger brother Anthony on the fight card.
“Boxing is always going to give me motivation. I love it,” said Lamont Peterson, 31, a former World Boxing Association light welterweight champion. “I am a prideful person so I am going to train hard no matter who it is. I’m going to train hard. Fans know and the boxing world knows I’m still here and I’m still learning and always getting better.”
Anthony Peterson recalled that he and his brother, both of whom were raised in D.C.’s Ward 8, fought on the same card in April at Barclays Center in New York City.
“But the time before that was December 2011 at the Convention Center in D.C., so it’s going to be a great night for both of us,” he said.
“We are grown men now,” Anthony Peterson added. “We are experienced veterans. We know what goes on in this sport and we are going to go in there and handle our business.”
