Pathways 2 Power, a student-led activist group from Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School in southeast D.C., will screen a video public service announcement they created in efforts to speak out against gun violence.
The group, consisting of the school’s seniors and recent graduates, partnered with GroundMedia, a D.C.-based strategic creative studio in Southeast that has worked with Disney and National Geographic to develop the video. Their goal: to shed light on gun violence issues in the District and to building a space for conversations about gun violence among students and community leaders. The film will be used as a platform to motivate youth citywide to join the movement and find their own voices. The PSA has been shown during D.C. Council hearings, on local television (DCC) and will be aired at film festivals and events following the release.
The screening, followed by a question and answer period, takes place on Thursday, Nov. 8, 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Ben’s Chili Bowl, 1213 U Street NW. Participants and guests will include: Pathways 2 Power students, filmmaker David Rochkind of GroundMedia, D.C. government officials and members of the local media.
