With Democrats taking control Thursday of the House of Representatives, incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi has left the door open for the possible impeachment or indictment of President Donald Trump.

“Many Democrats are talking about impeachment. You’ve said it would be sad and divisive for the country to pursue impeachment. Are you willing to rule it out?” NBC “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie asked in an interview with Pelosi that aired Thursday morning.

“We have to wait and see what happens with the Mueller report,” Pelosi said, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian ties to the 2016 Trump presidential campaign. “We shouldn’t be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn’t avoid impeachment for a political reason. So, we’ll just have to see how it comes.”

Less than a month after Trump took office in 2017, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said that it was fair to consider impeachment.

“I have not called for the impeachment yet, he’s doing it himself,” Waters said. “I think he is leading himself into that kind of position where people are beginning to ask, ‘what are we going to do?’”

Meanwhile, Trump has lashed out at talks of impeachment, countering in a tweet early Friday that he’s been too accomplished.

“As I have stated many times, if the Democrats take over the House or Senate, there will be disruption to the Financial Markets. We won the Senate, they won the House,” Trump tweeted. “Things will settle down. They only want to impeach me because they know they can’t win in 2020, too much success!”
