PM Lauds Increase in Bahamian-Owned Business

Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis lauded the new employment and consumption within the local economy through major Bahamian-owned projects and noted an increase in partnerships between foreign investors and Bahamians.

Speaking at Bahamas Business Outlook at Baha Mar on Jan. 17, Minnis said the economy has seen an increase in locally owned businesses that have been contributing to the growth of the economy, the Nassau Guardian reported.

The prime minister mentioned Paradise Lighthouse and Beach Club, Athol Island Entertainment and a heritage tourism project started by a group of Bahamian businessmen as local projects helping to grow the economy.

“This is a notable and wonderful increase in Bahamian and foreign investor partnership agreements and large-scale, Bahamian-owned resort and entertainment properties,” he said.

As for the heritage initiative, the Prime Minister said: “Their objective is operating several historical sites, transforming them into major attractions for Bahamians and the international tourism market. This represents greater Bahamian ownership in the tourism market.”

Minnis also mentioned the The Pointe’s official opening of its entertainment center in October, which includes investments by Bahamians.

“When a government says it believes in Bahamians, this must be more than just a slogan; this must come from the heart with sincerity,” he said.
