Rep. Emanuel Cleaver has been selected to receive the distinguished Good Neighbor Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation.
The foundation will honor the Missouri Democrat for his work on civility, affordable housing and economic development. The award ceremony will be held May 4 in Kansas City.
“I do appreciate this unbelievably big-league honor even if my contributions seem minor league when compared to those who have previously received this gold-plated award,” Cleaver said in a statement.
Previous winners include President Bill Clinton, former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and actor Gary Sinise.
