Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, has become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.’s Miami alumnae chapter.
Fulton, a Miami native, graduated from Florida Memorial University with a bachelor’s degree in English. She worked for the Miami-Dade County Housing Development Agency for more than 25 years and is a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Miami Gardens.
DST’s Miami chapter was chartered in 1941.
In the six years since the 2012 fatal shooting of her teenage son became a flashpoint for U.S. race relations, Fulton has dedicated her life to transforming the tragedy into social change, becoming an advocate for parents and concerned citizens against police brutality and for better gun control. Fulton currently leads the Trayvon Martin Foundation and established a program called the “Circle of Mothers.”
